Tips and aftercare
You will see the best results when your skin is healthy. And by following our aftercare tips you’ll be looking glam for longer!
Preparing your skin for treatments
Leading up to any skin treatment at Stylish Beauty and Nails we recommend you become one with your loofah or exfoliating scrub and your moisturiser. Do not exfoliate so much that you’re removing too much skin – just a gentle scrub every 3-4 days.
We are fortunate to live in an amazing part of the world – right next door to the Great Barrier Reef! So when choosing exfoliating products, choose wisely.
- Use organic loofahs – they are plant-based and effective. Just be sure to keep them clean and hang them somewhere other than your shower to dry!
- Avoid exfoliation scrubs that contain microbeads which end up in our ocean and harming animals.
Skin care after hair removal
Your skin is going to be sensitive so treat it nicely. Avoid hot water, exfoliation, the sauna, high-intensity exercise and tight clothes. Have a warm shower and avoid exfoliants, including products that contain acids. You can return to your exfoliation routine about three days after your treatment.
Preventing and treating ingrown hairs
An ingrown hair occurs when the hair either curls and grows back into the skin or the hair grows sideways into the skin due to hardened or dead skin cells on the surface. Don’t worry, they happen to all of us, but some people are more susceptible than others.
Prevent ingrown hairs through regular, gentle exfoliation and moisturiser. A tea tree lotion can be particularly effective as it has both antiseptic and moisturising properties. After your treatment, we’ll apply a tea tree oil lotion for you.
If you do get an ingrown hair, picking, prodding and poking is not helpful to the hair or your skin. Even with sterilised instruments, picking causes trauma to the ingrown hair and skin. This can lead to worsened appearance, infection and scarring (causing more ingrown hairs!) Instead, soak the area with a warm compress for about 10 minutes a few times a day. This will help bring the hair to the surface.
After spray tan tips
For you convenience, all of our spray tan solutions can be washed off in 2-4 hours. You can sleep with your tanning solution on – we recommend wearing loose pyjamas or clothing to protect your tan and your sheets. If you have cotton sheets it is best to use these as the tanning solution will stain satin sheets.
When you first shower you may notice some tanning solution in the water – that’s ok, your tan is not washing away.
The tan is sitting on the top layer of your skin. Anything that promotes the skin to shed, such as soaking in the bath, swimming, spas and saunas, will also remove the tan. When you first shower, do NOT use soap or exfoliate. Exfoliating or heavy rubbing will remove your tan.
After your shower, gently pat dry your skin and then moisturise your body. Do this after every shower to prolong the life of your tan.
After eyelash tinting tips
Don’t pull or pluck at your lashes – you want them to last!
Use a conditioning mineral mascara to hydrate and nourish you lashes.
Flutter those lashes and remember to book in for your next appointment.
Eyelash extension care
Don’t pull or pluck at your lashes – you want them to last!
Avoid water for the first 24 hours – do not get your lashes wet and avoid steam from showers and saunas. Do not put your face directly under the shower stream.
At your appointment we’ll provide you with a lash brush to keep your lash extensions separated and to stop them getting tangled or twisted. To keep your lashes looking ooh-la-la, we recommend you brush your lashes twice per day.
Use oil-free, gentle products – both moisturiser and make-up remover.
